When a skinny gray cat decides to move in to a nursing home, geriatrician Eva welcomes it. She knows research shows that pets have a positive effect on patients, and she fights for the cat to be allowed to stay. But soon she notices that everyone Mandla takes an interest in dies soon after, even if they were in good health just a few days before.
